Ok so I personally have never been excited about a Windows operating system. I like Windows 7 a lot more than Mac OSX and Windows XP (Ubuntu holds a special place in my heart though). However good Windows 7 is, it could use improvements and with my lovely Windows Phone 7 user interface being in my face everyday it really shows.
Windows8 at Mobile World Congress 2012
Not sure about you but, I am extremely jealous of the folks that get to attend MWC 2012. And sadly I haven’t found any videos of the Windows 8 demo at MWC. If any of you know where I could find that please please shoot me a link in the comments.

I first jumped in the iTrain when the iPhone 3gs came out. It’s funny to think that just about 2 years ago iOS finally got copy and paste, the ability to sync Facebook contacts, multi-tasking, and a slew of other improvements with iOS4. Despite iPhone’s constant lag in features it remains coveted by many. All of the above features I had on my Palm Treo 680 with PalmOS and on my Blackberry, which were 4 and 5 years older than the iPhone respectively.

Since A teenager I have been interested in technology. I bought my first computer when I was about 17 years old. It was a Windows 95 or 98 desktop with a Pentium II 333Mhz processor.
Now anyone would laugh at a processor speed like that in a phone. Bottom line is, technology has come a long way in the last 10 years. We went from desktops just starting to become big in the household to most households owning multiple smartphones which are more powerful than the computers from back then.

Every try to set up an event with your friends and have to text someone the date, time, or location multiple times? Or maybe you even have to call them. If you just put the event in their calendar then a lot of these problems can disappear. This is a feature that has been around for a while on different platforms but I don’t think that it gets the recognition that it deserves. Managing schedules is one of the biggest uses for a smartphone and many of us don’t ever see the full potential of our devices in that aspect. Siri has the neat new voice calendar entry which can be very useful but one issue with moving towards using smartphone calendars instead of the big one on the fridge is staying in sync.

It turns out that it is ridiculously easy to create ringtones for your WP7 devices. In short all you need is an audio file that is under 40 seconds long and has the genre set to “Ringtone”. That’s all there is to it. You can do it in iTunes even if you like. I chose to use Audacity for my audio editing which can offer a lot more options than just clipping a file. You could do your own mixes, control volume per channel, etc. This little video is simply going to show you the most basic way to prepare a ringtone for your Windows Phone 7 device and how to get your WP7 device rocking out when your friends call.
Create Custom Ringtones For Windows Phone 7
Windows Phone 7 is still an unknown to a lot of people. This happens for various reasons. Mainly because Android and IOS are crammed down everyone’s throats day and and day out. Not just on television but on the web, print, and even when we go into our carrier stores to upgrade. It doesn’t help that AT&T is more or less the only carrier in the United States that has a respectable line up of Windows Phone 7 devices. I honestly think that most people that own and iPhone, Android, Blackberry, or what have you would get much better use out of a Windows Phone 7 and enjoy it more for what they use most if they knew about it. Not just knew about it’s existence but were able to use the device and see how amazingly efficient it is at standard consumers every day tasks.

If you haven’t been watching anything about CES 2012 then you might have missed Microsoft’s little competition. It is called #smokedbywindowsphone. Basically it is a speed test of sorts between @benthepcguy and whomever wants to challenge him. The contest varies from person to person too instead of it being a lopsided test set by Microsoft with WP7 having an advantage. In fact, Andoid, iOS, or whomever the competitor is should have the advantage because the test is done based off what the challenger uses their phone for mostly.
WP7 Faster Than iPhone4s And Galaxy Nexus
So far I have seen the iPhone4s and Galaxy Nexus get #smokedbywindowsphone. And keep in mind the test was done to the advantage of the iPhone4s and the Galaxy Nexus because the tests were tailored to the challenger using those devices. Obviously if someone has great knowledge of both Android and WP7 or iOS and WP7 they could easily rig the test against WP7 if there is anything that Andoid/iOS are better at.
This is such a great competition because it shows people that WP7 can not only do what iOS and Android can but that it can actually do it faster. And to boot if you do win you get $100. If you lose it looks like you might get a free WP7, I assume as long as they last that is. Check it out on twitter by following @benthepcguy or searching for #smokedbywindowsphone. While you are over there follow @Brad_Billman.
I personally admire the Android operating system as a mobile platform. However, even as a techie, I do not care for the extensive amount of work it takes to customize the platform. I know it is usable as is but not that usable. That said I have not used Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich yet so I am strictly speaking on previous versions of Android.
Windows Phone 7 Is The Best All Around Smart Phone
Windows Phone 7 is the best mobile operating system if you are looking for a reliable and responsive smart phone. It has much less of a learning curve than Android and most tasks that a common user would perform are much more efficient on the Windows Phone 7 platform. Just take a serious look at what most common users do on a smartphone.

UPDATE: I have been getting traffic from people searching for “force 8107 update” so I don’t want anyone to be disappointed. Here is a link to do it force 8107 update
I opened up WP Bench this morning and saw that the newest device in their stats was the HTC HD2 Leo running WP7 8107. As some of you may or may not know the HTC HD2 Leo is natively and Andoid device but has been hacked to run WM6.5, WP7, and even Linux Ubuntu.
I personally find it pretty impressive that before the 8107 update has really even been released to very many real WP7 devices, some has already hacked it onto an Android device. I have seen a few different guides already showing you how to force the 8107 update to our WP7 devices, so I assume the method for getting onto the HD2 was similar.
I recently found out that probably half of the Windows Phone 7 users have not updated their phones to Mango yet. Being a techie this baffles me. But for the end user I suppose it could be understandable. The iPhone you always needed iTunes to update your phone and with Windows Phone 7 you need Zune. The difference is when you buy and iPhone you need iTunes to even use the thing at all so users are much more aware that the phone relies on iTunes. I am not sure if you still need iTunes with iOS 5 but historically you have.
Windows Phone 7 Updates
Windows Phone 7 (WP7) has been out for a little over a year and has had 2 updates pushed out. The first update was NoDo and was pushed out almost a year ago. The most recent was pushed out just last fall and was nicknamed Mango. A lot of users probably have no idea how to update because they are not familiar with the Zune software.
Zune is to WP7 as iTunes is to iPhone.
