Google Wants Data Not Users

In this day in age, I do not understand how people can support Google. They are easily the worst company when it comes to reasoning for it’s products. They will, and do, axe any product that does not mine enough of your personal data as it can. The will not keep a product alive because it makes them money and makes users happy if it isn’t harvesting the sufficient amount of data. Google reader is amongst the many fallen products. And it isn’t even just axing products that their users love. A lot of companies have to cut expenses that may effect users. But google does it not to save money but to harvest more personal data.

Imagine if any other product or service you use did this? Would you stay with that company? It would be like Netflix stopping it’s normal streaming of movies and shows in favor of having someone come into your house and examine your life and decide what movies/shows you would like to watch. Or forcing you to have a Netflix phone that you carry with you all the time and transmits information back to Netflix to decide what you should watch. People so blindly pledge their allegiance to google and it blows my fucking mind.

Beyond the forcing products that it thinks you want, it also uses its monopoly on search and personal info to subdue you into uses what it wants you to use. Android is now nearly 90% of the global smartphone market and that is thanks to Google making you feel that you cannot live without it. To really drive the point home, they throw their weight around to make sure there is no competition. Google has gone as far as blocking google maps and youtube from windows phone users to try to force them into Android. I don’t know about you, but I will never let a company make that choice for me. And will never support a company that uses those kinds of tactics. Google literally screws over it’s own users to try to keep Microsoft out of the mobile market. You cannot be a google user with a Windows Phone because google will make sure you can’t. That is not a company I will ever support.

Should I Buy Microsoft Surface RT or Surface 8 Pro

Microsoft has just announced it’s own line of Windows 8 tablet/ultrabooks, the Surface RT and Surface 8 Pro. The Surface RT is geared towards competing for tablet money while the Surface 8 Pro is a full fledged, high powered, Windows PC that has a form factor more like a tablet.

Tablets Are Redundant Pieces of Hardware

As I have posted before, I personally have little to no use for a tablet (in their current form) other than as a toy. I currently have a 7″ Android tablet that I play around with once in a while. Continue reading “Should I Buy Microsoft Surface RT or Surface 8 Pro”

Microsoft Smart Glass, Airplay, and DLNA

I like the presented features of Smart Glass. Although, I can’t help but feel that most of these features should have developed nicely through DLNA. DLNA as a group set out to make home media experience a nice seamless cross-platform experience, but so far has not been fruitful. Airplay on the other hand is a successful product but, it completely locks you into the Apple ecosystem so you have to buy a Mac, an AppleTV, and a iPhone/iPad/iPod to really get much out of it.

Microsoft Smart Glass Has The Extra Features

One difference is that Smart Glass is bringing more than simple media sharing across screens. Continue reading “Microsoft Smart Glass, Airplay, and DLNA”

Want To Know The Best Smartphone Ever

Just ask Siri on your iPhone 4s and she will certainly tell you what the best smartphone ever is.

For those of you who do not know, the responses that you get when you ask Siri what the best phone is usually is just a programmed response meant to be funny and will never actually tell you anything helpful. However, the programmers seemed to have let a few queries slip through the cracks. More or less just adding the word “ever” to the end of your query seems to give you a real response instead of some forced programmed response.

Nokia Lumia 900 – Best Smartphone EVER

The numbers don’t lie. For the average user the Nokia Lumia 900 is the best smartphone ever. Obviously for some people there are reasons to choose a different device but many are doing themselves and injustice by not considering a WP7 in their smartphone choices. Not just the Lumia line have awesome customer reviews. Almost every single WP7 sold has been in the top customer reviews on many different sites. Because it is simply awesome. The Windows Phone 7 operating system is beautiful, fast, intuitive, and just a joy to use.

So go get your hands on one and see for yourself. If you don’t like it all the carriers have easy return policies.

Tablets Are The Most Redundant Pieces Of Technology

Well maybe I am just being a bit cynical but, tablets do not bring anything to the table. Seriously think about it for a second. What does a tablet do that either the phone or laptop can’t do. Not only that they can’t do but that they can’t do better than a tablet does. Today’s “tablets” are less portable cell phones that generally don’t make calls and have crappy cameras. Or if you try to compare them to a laptop then yes they are more portable but with very limited functionality and a need for extra peripherals to perform tasks almost as efficiently as a laptop.

Easily Share Calender Events Across IOS, WP7, PC, Mac, and Probably Android

Every try to set up an event with your friends and have to text someone the date, time, or location multiple times? Or maybe you even have to call them. If you just put the event in their calendar then a lot of these problems can disappear. This is a feature that has been around for a while on different platforms but I don’t think that it gets the recognition that it deserves. Managing schedules is one of the biggest uses for a smartphone and many of us don’t ever see the full potential of our devices in that aspect. Siri has the neat new voice calendar entry which can be very useful but one issue with moving towards using smartphone calendars instead of the big one on the fridge is staying in sync.

Does Android Really Have More Features Than WP7?

I personally admire the Android operating system as a mobile platform. However, even as a techie, I do not care for the extensive amount of work it takes to customize the platform. I know it is usable as is but not that usable. That said I have not used Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich yet so I am strictly speaking on previous versions of Android.

Windows Phone 7 Is The Best All Around Smart Phone

Windows Phone 7 is the best mobile operating system if you are looking for a reliable and responsive smart phone. It has much less of a learning curve than Android and most tasks that a common user would perform are much more efficient on the Windows Phone 7 platform. Just take a serious look at what most common users do on a smartphone.
